Hello, I am new here. I am a new cross stitcher.

Yes I am new to cross stitching. Need a lot of help. The name I have on here is my son CJ passed away almost two years ago and it's still hard on me so that's the reason to my name. I am disabled. I am a mom. I am home and by myself for the most of my days and nights. Have a lot of medical issues. I get frustrated not understanding all I need to know to stitch. My other issue is living in a small town where even Wal Mart don't carry supplies and so it's hard to come by supplies cheap enough for this disabled mom to afford. Ordering online gets expensive with shipping. So I can't buy a lot of supplies so that's frustrating. Wow and already again another year in 4 days I'll be another year younger LOL. Yeah I wish more like another 10 years older according to how I feel. Anyways I have no friends here where I live. Would love to make some online. Would love to talk to you so hope to hear from you soon.

Welcome!
So glad you've found us!
Happy early birthday!
The best thing about cross stitch is that if you can stitch an X, you're good to go. Mainly, you should have all of your x's facing the same way; e.g., be sure the tops of your stitches are either
all
facing right to left or
all
facing left to right throughout your work.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you. I am familiar with the x's facing the same way. Where do you buy your supplies? I need to find the cheapest place. Do you live in the U.S.? What kinds of things do you like to stitch? I love dolphins, penguins, Christmas, horses, wolves, snowmen, gingerbread men, wildlife.

Do you have any craft stores nearby? There are no cross stitch stores in my area, so I tend to buy from craft stores. In particular, we really only have Michael's, though they do tend to stock DMC colors.
I'll often wait for a good sale, then stock up on floss that way. Do you have a Michael's store in your area?
I do live in the US. I also like wildlife...horses, wolves, penguins, dolphins...I like cats, too.
Feel free to post pics of your work...we love to drool!

No Michaels unless I drive 111 miles. Even WalMart don't carry supplies here. I hate it. I like cats too just always forget everything I like. I like tigers too. I am trying to make a wishlist on Heaven and Earth Designs but there's so many I like. I only have started the one project and haven't got much done on it because of my health. There's so much smoke around me from the fires that I am having a lot of breathing problems cause I have asthma, COPD, and emphysema and high blood pressure and other health issues but the smoke is affecting these ones pretty bad. I am brand new to stitching. I don't have much supplies and that makes it tough with no stores nearby to get stuff when it's on sale sadly. I am enjoying chatting with you. Hope to hear back from you.

Argh, that's such a long trip for Michael's!
That's awful about your Walmart, too. Ours has a far smaller craft supply department than it used to have. It used to be huge...lots of yarns, fabrics, sewing threads, machine supplies, the entire DMC palette, plenty of cross stitch kits and patterns and now...almost nothing. It's very frustrating. The only cross stitch store that was close was still quite a distance away, and it went out of business years ago. This economy has made it rough for any business to stick around. We've lost most of our craft stores...JoAnn Fabrics, yarn shops, the distant cross stitch store, etc.
Where are you located...are you in the Pacific Northwest?
My best friend was affected by the fires in Texas in 2011. She and her husband were evacuated, and for days had no idea if their home was safe. They finally were able to return and thankfully, they were lucky...their home didn't burn. But what a scary thing. And that smoke isn't good for anyone.
Just a thought...I don't know if she carries embroidery floss or other cross stitching supplies, but I know that Cindy of Cindy's Crafts in Tennessee ships orders for exact cost. She's known for her beads, mostly, but I know she sells other craft supplies, too, so you may want to contact her. Here's her website:

Cindy is always super helpful!
If Cindy doesn't carry the cross stitch supplies you're looking for, you could also try ordering from JoAnn Fabrics...I've heard they'll have promotions where they have free shipping, so that may help keep your costs down.
I'm enjoying chatting with you too!
