New! The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn! If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you. This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic! (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)
New! The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
Welcome to Stitchboard! Feel free to sit and stay awhile. Check out our new Premier features. In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request! We have many more features planned, too!

I have been trying to create pattern... I have used this soo many times I have lost count... and have never had a problem... but for some reason, for the last 48hrs, I havnt been able to do anything... I select my file, but every time it just says no file selected... I have tried it with lots of different photos... but nothing is making a difference... all help much appreciated
Kimtchon,
Welcome!
Good news! We currently have that feature in development, so it isn't yet available. I don't yet have a time frame for it.
Line,
LOL, perhaps this site isn't exactly child-friendly...for very unusual reasons!

Seriously, just a thought...you could crochet a basic solid-color blanket and do the design in cross stitching. It wouldn't look exactly the same, but it would still look nice.
Melanie,
You're absolutely right. When you stop to thing about how to do something you've always just done automatically, it's very strange that you can't figure it out ... it's like it's something new or foreign that you've never seen or done before. Very weird.
I discovered this when I used to fix computers for a living. Whenever I would try to talk someone through a process so they could do it themselves, I had to sit down and figure out exactly what I was doing because I had gotten to the point of doing it automatically w/o thinking about what I was doing.
We humans are strange creatures sometimes. LOL

Picachu,
Welcome!

There's a
calculation involved if you don't have fabric measurements. But the
good news is, you don't need to reinvent the wheel! Someone has an
excellent cross stitch fabric calculator.
https://yarntree.com/java/xstitchcal.htm
In addition to the number of stitches either way, you do
need to know the count of the fabric you're using, because that
will make a difference. 14 count vs 11 count is very different!
This calculator also allows for the
specification of a border, if you plan to use a mat, and another
calculation for extra fabric for finishing.
Hope this helps!
