New member searching for cross stitch tips :-)
April 19, 2022 at 10:31:11 AM

Hello I'm new here and I really love this website!

I love stitching a lot and I am currently thinking about starting to cross stitch. I have done a lot of embroidery stitching in the past so I thought that it would be a helpful start in this endavour.

The thing is I want to create something personalised and so I thought of using your Pattern Wizard Feature and upload an image. Should I start with something simplistic? Call me crazy but I'm a Marvel fan and I wanted to create a Spider-Man cross stitch since he is my favourite hero.

Am I thinking too big or is it a good start?

Thanks all and have great day/night! :-)

Queenphalange,
Welcome! Smile
Although I've seen beginners start with large, complex projects, my first instinct is always to have people start with smaller ones. As a beginner, you want to learn how to read the pattern and handle your project. I feel that an advanced project may not get you the earlier steps you need for learning. I'm not saying you should hold off forever, but perhaps trying a simple kit or two would be helpful before starting something much larger.
I do think your idea of a SpiderMan cross stitch is wonderful, so perhaps you could still plan it out while working a smaller kit first? Kiss
You also have a lovely day or night! Kiss

Maria (not sure how I missed your name last time!),
You're so welcome and I hope you can find a small kit you really love! Kiss

I know it has been a while since this was posted, but I thought I would throw in my 2 cents.
I was in the exact position as you a little while ago. I ended up doing a few small projects first. I did the starter Pokemon, before starting a huge piece with Lady Sylvanas from WoW. I had not stitched since middle school so this was for me to figure out if I like it. But to be honest, I figured out things like cloth and thread once I was planning the big project, not really before.
You could start with just a more pixelated image of the Spiderman mask for example? It could be just one days work, something big enough to be a drink coaster. And then tackle something big.
If you do start a big project, I would encourage you to post to the WIP (work in progress) part of the forum, so we can cheer you on.
