Hi my name is Maly. I live in San Jose California. I recently just last year picked up crocheting. I have done a few projects. Mostly small baby blankets with not much detail. I consider myself a beginner. I can only follow video and I can't read patterns yet. I hope to some day though.I picked up looming over a year ago and had fun making scarfs and beanies but then it got boring and wanted to get back into something more.
I have turned into a major yarn hoarder.. Heard that happens a lot in the crochet world lol.

Welcome, Maly!  Smile

Baby blankets are excellent starting projects!  I started with those myself...baby blankets and pillows.  The baby blankets are especially nice because they give you a chance to do repetitive stitches without having an endless project.  Smile  My attention span was pretty short when I first started and I knew I could realistically finish a baby blanket within a certain amount of time and (most importantly) have it ready by the time the baby was due!

Looming was also one of the first things I did...that was years before I officially started learning knitting/crochet.  I had what was called an Apple Pie Knitter.  It was a pretty small loom, and I made a lot of fashion doll dresses and skirts with it.  LOL, they were pretty crude and the armholes were basically punched into the spots between the stitches...but it was a fun way to learn, because I never had enough fashion doll dresses!  Wink

Yarn hoarding...nope, never heard of it.  Wink  And I don't know anything about those shadowy back corners of drawers and closets.  Or retired handbags.  Or strategic spots under mattresses.  Move along, nothing to see here.  Laughing

Feel free to post pics of things you've made...we'd love to see!  Smile

Hi Maly, and Welcome

You will love this place. And yes yarn hoarding is one of the side effects of being a crochet addict.. It's great Smiley. Recently when my daughter saw my latest yarn stash she said "What? More wool Mum? You really are becoming a wool hoarder." LOL. I love it. Funny thing is, who do come to when they want a new beanie or scarf... hmm that would be me LOL...It has got to the point in this house if I mention going to Spotlight (where I buy my yarn) I hear groans coming from all directions..LOL...I have suggested to my hubby that if it bothers him that much he can always build me my own studio. Smiley Funnily enough he went very quiet LOL.

Again Welcome, I hope you enjoy being a member here and meet lots of new crochet addicts, oops I mean crochet friends Wink

Karen,

Now, what do we have to do for your husband to build you a studio?  Wink  Because I am all for it.  Meanwhile, my dear, you do need better hiding places for your yarns.  They can't complain about what they can't see, hmm, now, can they?  Laughing  This is where being creative is a plus!  Laughing

Welcome Maly,

Hoarding yarn? Me? Wink Hardly.

I like to have my yarn out where I can see all the colors in order to put them together, so when hubby commented on how much I have I just said " well they are only a couple of bucks, so why not?"
So I'll admit to having some stashed away that he doesn't know about yet. Embarassed
