Hi from South Africa
February 12, 2015 at 7:40:40 AM
I live in SA and about 2 years ago I started to crochet.
I haven't attempted anything too complicated yet , I've made mostly Afgans using different but simple stitches. They became really popular and just about every friend or family member has asked for one .
I have two good friends ,one in the UK and one in NZ who both requested an afgan from me , its a good feeling to know they have something handmade to snuggle under when they live so far away
I'm hoping to gets lots of inspiration here, I enjoy seeing what others have created
At the moment we are in the middle of a heatwave , 35C yesterday , 36C the day before so it's been a litle too hot to do much of anything , never mind crochet
Look at that smile! (Photo guaranteed unretouched)

Caren,
Welcome!
Afghans are a great way to learn new stitches, as you've found! And how lovely that your friends and family appreciate your work.
Isn't it wonderful to make beautiful things for people who live far away? IMO, handmade gifts are the best gifts of all. Nothing speaks so clearly as a gift that's taken so much dedication to make.
If you have a chance, feel free to upload pictures of what you've made...we all love to drool!
Ugh, that's a terrible heat wave! Where I am the weather is ultra cold...if I could send some of it your way to cool you down, I would in a second! I definitely agree about it being too hot to crochet...yuck, how can you crochet with sweaty fingers? Blech!

I'm a beading, knitting and crochet addict. If that means I'm admitting I have a problem, then I admit to nothing. Please refrain from helping me.
