Good evening from Vegas
February 25, 2015 at 9:09:32 PM
Hello my name is Leanne. I live in Las Vegas (Sin City
) movved here from Yuma Az 15 years ago. I am a stay at home mom to a 6 year old son and while he is in school I help my roommate take care of her 3 year old son. I have back and knee issues that are keeping me from working so I keep myself busy by crocheting. I am starting to become interested in the gragh ghans. I want to do a Darth Vader but just learning. If anyone can give me any ideas I would be very greatful.

Leanne,
Welcome!
Glad you can keep occupied with crochet...it's a very absorbing hobby, isn't it?
My biggest suggestion is if you're just starting out with graphghans to try something smaller and simple. I know, it's
so
tempting to want to do something complex! But I always feel one can't go wrong by trying something less complicated.
From experience...this is what I learned to do with bead crochet. I wanted so badly to make one of those crocheted bangles, but ouch, I couldn't do it! It was awkward, and I was all thumbs. Finally, I realized I'd have to hold off on my dream of making something big and instead start small. I grabbed a bunch of pony beads, of all things, a length of yarn, and then forced myself to bead crochet with the beads. You know something...it worked! I was soon able to work with the beads in addition to the hook, just by starting with something so much less complex.
If I'd gone with the tiny beads and kept trying to make a bangle, I would have given up in frustration.
Anyway, hope that helps.

Thank you for the advice and its great advice. I have been crocheting as long as I can remember i'm 36 now. Crochet is part of my life my mom taught me. I can't wait to start on some small graghgahn projects.

Leanne,
That's lovely how your mom taught you to crochet, and that you've kept doing it for so long!
I always start small on projects and have found I get much less frustrated than if I try to do something huge when I'm not sure of what to do yet (like that crocheted bangle). And small graph projects can be used for so much...pillows, wall hangings, pincushions, etc!
