Cross Stitch Black Lines Turning Green
May 20, 2017 at 3:10:31 AM

This is driving me mad.

Often when I'm making cross stitch patterns with text in them, the black lines of the text, no matter how clear and sharp, often come out as light grey, green, or are even absent entirely.

I'm aware of the issues with JPGs so have tried both GIFs and PNGs with no improvement.  I tried limiting the colours of the image which really has only 5, flat colours to begin with - but this only seems to worsen the problem.  Tips?

Hi tandykins,

That issue with .jpgs was my first idea.  One question I do have is how you created the .gif and .png images.  By loading a .jpg and saving it as a .gif or .png still leaves in the "noise".

The first thing I do to look for a possible cause is to use a paint program and enlarge the image a lot.  Often you can see other colors in what should be black lines.  I've even seen black and white images with a lot of colors that show up when they're enlarged.

I'm willing to look at your original image (if you don't mind) and see if I can see a cause.  I could then also run it through the program and see what results I get.

If you don't mind sending me an image with which you're having problems, let me know and I'll send you an email.  You can then reply and attach your image.

I also have some testing to do for two other users.  I'll be finishing up two projects over the next few days and will be back to testing and updating.

So let me know if it's ok for me to look at your image with the program and I'll see what's causing this.

Terry
