deehansen,

Welcome! Smile

Is this a pattern on the Stitchboard site? If you've found it elsewhere but it was created with the freePatternWizard please note we have no limitations on where people can post their patterns. As long as they hold the copyright, they're free to post it anywhere.

deehansen,

Please give me the link to the pattern page. I haven't been able to locate it on our site so I must be entering an incorrect term.

Thanks!

deehansen,

Thanks! I see the pattern now. Apparently it's meant as a chart only standalone pattern, so you can choose the colors and type of yarn you want.

If you're referring to the lack of gridlines, you can draw in your own either by hand post-printing or with a graphics program pre-printing.

As for specific instructions, this particular pattern was uploaded by a Stitchboard member, so we have no control over what people post.

I assumed I would be able to get written step by step instruction as with any other crochet pattern.

deehansen,

If you're referring to a word chart that tells you when to change colors, this particular user didn't design the pattern that way, only as a graph. The freePatternWizard will create word charts when requested, but if the option isn't requested at the time it isn't possible to work backwards and have it read the pattern to determine when color changes occur. This is purely the choice of the user. Also, if we were to take any old graph and have the ability to somehow turn it into a word chart, the problem would be that people would take proprietary pattern graphs and turn those into word charts, where patterns would have to be made up before it could be determined it was copyright infringement. So by turning any graphs into word patterns, there would be good chances the program would then be misused quite a bit.

I can certainly understand why you'd prefer a word chart...I prefer them myself. Unfortunately, I can't change how the user decided to output this chart. My best suggestion would be to add the grid lines. I know it's a lot more tedious, but that way the pattern will be much easier to follow.
