Gopher,
Welcome!
The reason the pattern is changing to 184x338 instead of your preferred size is because the program figures the correct length for the dimensions of your image. If you could choose a size lengthwise, your pattern would be very skewed, and there are more chances you would dislike it than like it.
There is a solution, but it requires a bit of fiddling with the image. What you'd need to do is use a graphics program (not the freePatternWizard, as it doesn't work like a graphics program, since its function is very different) to add borders on the sides, so the length ultimately comes out closer to the 194 rows that you want. As the program sees the sides have been widened with each new image you give it, it will compensate by matching the length to the new width. There are unfortunately no specific ranges of sizes that I can give you, because that would be unique to each and every image.
Ultimately we'll be adding more functions, and we may very well end up with the ability to do the work in the freePatternWizard itself, but for now, that capability isn't available.

Melanie and I had a long discussion yesterday regarding the ability to enter exact dimensions. We're also discussing adding the option to allow you to reduce the stitch size on the pdfs so you can fit more stitches. (And possibly larger for those who have a hard time seeing the printouts as they are now).
We're thinking of offering maybe 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, and 80 stitches across on a pdf page, which would be your choice.
We'd love to have feedback regarding this idea. Several people have expressed interest in more stitches per page. What do you think?
