Palette question plus two more
October 16, 2017 at 9:22:31 PM

Hello,
1-When I am creating a chart (even in word chart only) it still states "Palette Used: Stitchboard Word Chart" even if I select Red Heart yarn. Is there an option to change this if prenier is purchased? I am not referring to the bottom of the page, I mean directly under the graph photo.
2-Is there an option to customize my width AND length? For instance if I want to create 100 x 150? I see currently I can choose my width but not my length.
3-When I input my pic to make a graph, it changes the colors. How can I fix this so that it keeps the original colors?
4-Is there way to make less pages on a PDF? Some of my charts are coming out to be 16 pages long.
Thank you

Palette question plus two more

Hi,

I'm scratching my head as to why I made it this way.  Undecided  Looking at the regular chart it does show the correct palette used.  I ran a pattern using Red Heart yarn and it shows Red Heart palette on the chart key page but like you say, "Palette Used: Stitchboard Word Chart" on the word chart key page.  We discussed it here and draw a blank.  (We're getting old. Foot in Mouth)

I'm on the tail end of debugging about 23 fixes and improvements and will add this into the list since it's an easy thing to do.  Sometime this week I'll be turning on this new update and at that point it'll be back to showing the actual palette used.

Currently not in this version.  Again in the changes I've made in the past 2-3 weeks but haven't made live yet, I set it up to prepare for manually entering the length.  This new version won't allow this option yet.  I'll probably add this soon.  Originally we only allowed the width to keep the final work proportional.  By entering the width and height, the final stitched item would not come out looking like the original image.  This will be the drawback to manually entering the height.  A new major version coming up which allows editing and a lot more features will allow you to enter the height and then have you crop the image to keep it proportional.  More about that when it comes.

Color change has been addressed in the new version that I hope to be turning on this week.  There were a few bugs relating to colors that will be corrected.  Let me know if you still have color issues after the next version comes live.  You'll see version 3.8 and a new version mention at the top when I turn it on.

4-Is there way to make less pages on a PDF? Some of my charts are coming out to be 16 pages long.

To do this in the current version, you can change paper size and you'll be able to get more stitches per page.  See this link for more information.  Basically it allows up to 130 stitches across and 240 rows down per page.  This requires that your pdf viewer/printer software allows you to tell it to shrink or fit the pdf to a regular printed page of paper.  (Most software allows this).  A new version coming up will also have shrink and enlarge features which will also do this.

Hope this all helps and I'm working hard to get the new updates enabled very soon.

Hi,

I just updated the program so the word charts now show the yarn manufacturer name on the cover sheets instead of "Palette Used: Stitchboard Word Chart".

This addresses your first question above.

More updates soon as I finish testing them.

Hello i am fairly new to stitchboard, I have finally gotten a graph made that is PERFECT for what i want to go for my graphgan.. it is going to be a huge undertaking as there is 59 colours...but it will be well worth it....MY question is this.. i used the full Switchboard Pallet colours.. But i havent a clue what yarn it is that it uses? Can you please shed some light on this for me.. If worse comes to worse i guess i would have to match Bernat or Red Heart to the colour  codes of the Switchboard Pallet but it would still be nice to know what yarn it is using...Thank you so much... Tanya

Tanya,

Welcome! Smile

We recommend that you actually don't use the Stitchboard Full Palette. The reason is it was never meant for yarn colors at all. Unfortunately, yarn manufacturers will likely never make a lot of colors, because then they'd get stuck with many that wouldn't sell well. It's sad for knitters and crocheters, but that's how it works, unfortunately. Frown The Full Palette was mainly meant for offbeat embroidery floss colors and bead palettes, which have hundreds of colors and not only tens of colors.

Instead, we do recommend using the Stitchboard Basic Palette, as many of these will translate better to basic yarn manufacturers' palettes. There is a dearth of yarn color choices out there, so even in those palettes many colors aren't represented, but you'll be able to match more of them than with the Stitchboard Full Palette, which will be next to impossible to match for most of the colors.

I'm sorry to say there's no easy answer, but unless manufacturers someday really want to offer a large variety of colors, the Basic Palette is the better choice for patterns.

Ok Thank you, this explains why there is no yarn type..LOL...ugh back to the drawing board. I am trying to make a graph from a photo of a horse for a friend of mine who recently had to put her horse down and i want to make this as a surprise so the full colour palette was perfect but i will go back and see if i can do something different with the palettes shown..Thank you so much for your response...  Smiley

Tanya,

You're so welcome! Smile

I really wish there were better color choices for yarns. Frown It's such a disappointment to look at what's available and realize so many colors are seriously unrepresented. If only cost weren't such an issue! Cry
