Cross Stitch 'count'
November 10, 2014 at 9:20:16 PM
Hello, I'm a brand new member and have just created my first pattern. Does the count column show me the number of stitches that will be in the final piece per colour? How do I know how much DMC thread to purchase? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Noeline.

Noeline,
Welcome!
Yes, you're correct - the count column is to give you the number of stitches of each color in your pattern.
As for the amount of thread, unfortunately, there isn't really a formula that I know of...it would be hard to make a reliable formula, considering your stitches in a certain color may all be close together, or they may be far apart.
What you might want to do is buy more skeins in the colors that have more stitches...the good thing about DMC is the colors are reliable, so you don't have to worry about dye lots and colors not matching from skein to skein, unlike with yarn, where colors have to be purchased in large enough quantities and all at the same time to ensure enough for a particular project. If you don't buy enough floss, you can always purchase more of the same color, knowing it will definitely be the same!
Hope that helps!
