message out on the web
January 28, 2015 at 11:03:15 AM
Melanie,
I responded to you this morning, and after posting the response, I went out to the string on the web, and today's response
updated
the string on the web.
So I deleted that last response, and started a
new post
on the stitchboard site as a test to be sure that would not link.
Okay it did not (didn't expect a new message to be linked but just wanted to be sure).
Now I'll continue: Thinking you put that out on the web hoping to draw more people to the stitchboard site. I'm okay with that if you can edit the string to end after Message # 7. That way you have all the pics and related conversation, but nothing after that.
Please don't put any other of my messages out on the web.
I'm also concerned that anyone might respond to the web string and inject a virus back. You might want to ask your IT person.
Janice

Janice,
Okay, I'm sorry for the confusion. Let me explain: the Community is automatically indexed by Google. Whatever new message (the one to which I'm responding?) you mentioned previously will ultimately be indexed; however, it may not be immediate.
It wasn't my choice, but I sort of lost out on that one. The idea is to let people know that we have conversations going. The Community may someday be closed to Google, but for now, it's open.
Circles, OTOH, are completely private. Though we're looking at a full rewrite of the Circles software sometime in the future, for now Circles will stay as is, and my feeling is they will
always
be private.
I'll delete after message #7. IMO, there's nothing to worry about (I, too, tend to get concerned about things I say being available online, but then I realize people are usually too busy thinking about their own problems to worry about what I'm saying, LOL!), but I understand and will accommodate.
Anyway, no problem, and realize this thread will definitely be indexed, too...I guess when you'd searched, Google hadn't yet indexed, since (as I mentioned) it isn't immediate. And, I'm very sorry for any misunderstanding from my lack of good explanations.
Looking forward to more great discussions with you.

message out on the web
January 29, 2015 at 6:49:52 AM (in response to Stitchboard Admin message #2)
Melanie,
If there was mention of all community conversations being out on the web and possibly being googled, I missed that information. I believe at the top of the community page in a bright red box, members need to be warned that anything written is available to the public.
Thank you for deleting messages beyond Message #7 in that string.
Thanks for the info.
Janice

Janice,
Thank you kindly for your input.
I would love to someday make the entire thing private (other than the mall, of course), but as I mentioned, I was overruled, and for now it's going to stay the way it is.
I did send along your suggestion about putting a message up about the searchability of the posts.
You're very welcome...and thank
you
for being accommodating about the messages and leaving the gist of that wonderful discussion available!
