C2C(corner to corner) graphgan crochet help
March 23, 2015 at 12:05:10 PM
Hello everyone,
I am new to graphgans and I like to do them working the C2C. Does anyone have any advice how to set up the pattern so the schematics are correct? Also Id like to be able to inset my own images or phrases but I still can not figure it out yet.
Please Help!!!

Welcome!
To clarify your question...you're talking about working the corner to corner technique with the blocks of stitches that face one way and then another way?
If I'm understanding correctly, I would say your best bet is to do a gauge swatch, albeit a kind of unusual one, to figure out your ratio of blocks. I'm guessing they'll end up being more square than anything, but as I can't put my hands on my own c2c work, that will have to be your determination.
That will only allow you to make very, very simple patterns, though, and the freePatternWizard isn't set up to make c2c block patterns. If you find your blocks are square (or squarish), you could then use the cross stitch function and - again - with a very, very simple image, plot the pattern as blocks instead of individual stitches.
My gut feeling is that the blocks are square or fairly close to it, as they face in one direction, then the other, and I can't imagine they'd really be any other shape!
If you're talking about making a pattern out of your own images or phrases, if these are large, you might discover the amount of blocks it would take for it would be pretty monumental and take a
very
long time to make, as well as become quite impractically large for even an afghan. That's why I'd suggest staying simple, since the freePatternWizard is better suited to single crochet stitches, rather than blocks, and anything as large as blocks would tend to lose more detail, as the blocks are much larger than single crochet stitches.

Tasha,
Welcome!
Are you talking about for C2C or just a regular afghan?
Regardless of which you're talking about, if you're looking to make it a certain size, you must make a gauge swatch. I know, almost nobody likes making them (yes, me included), but that's the only way to calculate how many stitches you'll need. You must make this swatch using the fiber you plan to use and the hook size.
The reason I can't give you a specific number is because all of these things are as individual as you are.
Your chosen fiber, hook and tension will be different from mine. So if you're looking to make a specific size of anything - even someone's published pattern - you must swatch.

Hello I am trying to figure out how to make a graph for c2c hdc( I think they call this mini) that is not distorted on the program. The only way I get a clear graph on here is if I allow it to make it by the picture pixels which would make a huge huge blanket. I want a finished blanket that is about 38.5" x 42.5" so how can I get this to work?

Chris,
My guess is what you're trying to do is to create a pattern using regular crochet stitches. This won't work for C2C, which is not available at this time. Unfortunately, regular crochet stitches are rectangular and not square, and if used for C2C may not make for a good result. So yes, you'll get a very, very large pattern if you attempt to do it that way.
